FeedBackFruits Proof of Concept

FeedbackFruits

FeedbackFruits (opens in a new window) is a web application owned by Netherlands Edtech company that started in 2012 to answer the question “Why does the communication in education have to be a one-way only system?” From this question FeedbackFruits became a driver to transform active learning by providing pedagogical tools that helps instructors convey knowledge in their courses and improve student’s higher order thinking skills. This was achieved through an approach to support active student participation and organised constructive feedback. FeedbackFruits comprises of 13 tools, most of these tools are similar in functionality to tools available in vUWS. However, there are two tools in FeedbackFruits that are not available through vUWS’ standard tool suite.

1) Peer Review:

Provides an opportunity for students to provide feedback comment, (a complement or suggestion) on other student’s submissions. There is also opportunity (if provided by the instructor) for students to rate their reviewer, and respectively comment on the review or upvote (for example if the student found the comment useful). The process of for students to self-review their own submissions, review peer comments, reflect and comment on received feedback and self-reflecting, provides a platform for a deeper reflection and understanding. Instructors can track progress through all phases of the review process.

2) Group Member Evaluation:

This tool enables students to provide feedback on other students skill set or actions (e.g interaction with the group/presentation delivery, etc). Students review the feedback they receive and (if the instructor requires them to do so) write a reflection based on that feedback. Group Member Evaluation helps students develop teamwork and reflective practice skills. It can be especially useful to provide peer feedback in areas such as presentations.

FeedbackFruits integrates with Blackboard through LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) allowing instructors to create FeedbackFruits content from within the vUWS. These tools can be utilised individually but provide a more enriched learning experience when used together.
