Honours
A Bachelor Honours degree may be taken as an additional year following a three year degree or can be awarded on the basis of meritorious achievement in degrees of four or more years.
This information is for applicants looking to undertake an additional Honours year at the end of their degree. If you are a current Western Sydney University student enrolled in a degree with an embedded Honours program you should contact your School about eligibility and how to register in your Honours subjects.
If you are enrolled in your last term, or have no more than one full time term of study left in your degree you are eligible to apply for Honours programs at Western Sydney University.
Please note Honours programs have a limited number of places available. Applications for each intake must be submitted by the nominated closing date.

You will need to submit all of the following information for your application to be considered:
- current academic transcript of all previous university study. Studies completed at Western Sydney University must be detailed in your application, however the university will access your transcript on your behalf.
- Statement of Intent as detailed in the School specific information below
- proof of change of name if your qualifications are in a name other than the name under which you are applying
- proof of English proficiency if your studies were taken in a language other than English
- some courses require a letter of support for your chosen area of research. Please see below under Program Specific Requirements for these details
All documentation presented must be correctly certified.

What is the Statement of Intent?
The statement of intent indicates what research you would like to undertake in your Honours year. Each School has different requirements that you'll need to address, so make sure you check the requirements below for the School to which you are applying.
Closing Dates
The closing date for applications vary depending on the Honours program you wish to study and the School in which the research is undertaken. Some programs have strict closing dates, other programs will accept applications at anytime, but do have deadlines for each intake.

- 4784 Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours)
Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)
Admission is determined on all of the following criteria being met:
- Current registration as a registered nurse/midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency- Nursing and Midwifery, or eligibility for same.
- Completion of Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery undergraduate degree with achievement of a threshold Average Admission Mark (AAM) equal to, or above, the minimum of 65.
- A Statement of Intent of approximately 500 words outlining the proposed research topic area, aim and general method proposed to be used in the research study.
- Appointment of a principal supervisor by the Dean, or nominee, of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- Demonstrated satisfactory academic writing skills appropriate to the discipline which will be assessed by the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours)
Admission is determined on all of the following criteria being met:
- Current registration as a registered midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
- Completion of a Midwifery undergraduate degree with achievement of a threshold Average Admission Mark (AAM) equal to, or above, the minimum of 65.
- A Statement of Intent of approximately 500 words outlining the proposed research topic area, aim and general method proposed to be used in the research study.
- Appointment of a principal supervisor by the Dean, or nominee, of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- Demonstrated satisfactory academic writing skills appropriate to the discipline which will be assessed by the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Application
Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made direct to Western Sydney University.
The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) and Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours) are not open to international student visa holders.
Closing Date
Autumn 2026 commencement - applications close31 January 2026. Applications received by this date are guaranteed consideration for commencement in Autumn 2026.
Applications received after the closing date will be accepted without penalty, but may not be considered in time to commence in the selected teaching term.

Statement of Intent
Entry is limited to students who have completed the following programs at Western Sydney University in the last 10 years.
- Bachelor of Psychological Studies
- Bachelor of Social Sciences (Psychology)
- Graduate Diploma of Psychological Studies
- Bachelor of Arts with a Key Program in Psychology
- Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws
- Bachelor of Psychological and Social Sciences
- Bachelor of Psychological and Social Sciences (Online)
- Bachelor of Psychological Science and Criminology (Online)
In addition, students must have obtained an Average Admission Mark of 75+ in core accredited Level 2 and 3 psychology subjects.
Entry into Honours is restricted by supervisory capacity. Limited places are available in this program and meeting the admission criteria does not guarantee entry. Eligible students are selected in order of merit based on their Average Admission Mark in Level 2 and 3 units. There is no provision for deferring an offer of a place.

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made direct to Western Sydney University.
International applicants must apply directly to the Western Sydney University via the International Office.
Closing Date
Autumn 2026 commencement - submit application by 31 October 2025. No applications will be accepted after the closing date.
