Biography

Dr Ataur Rahman is an Associate Professor in Water and Environmental Engineering in University of Western Sydney. He has a specialisation in Water Engineering. He obtained his BEng (Civil) from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Masters in Hydrology from National University of Ireland and PhD from Monash University, Australia. He worked in Sinclair Knight Merz, CRC for Catchment Hydrology and Queensland University of Technology before joining the University of Western Sydney in 2002. He has served as a Visiting Academic in Cornell University (USA), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), The University of Newcastle (Australia), Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (UAE) and University of New South Wales (Australia). He has supervised 12 PhD students and 5 Masters by Research students to successful completion. Currently, he is supervising 10 PhD students and three Masters by Research students. He has published 5 books, 20 book chapters, 106 journal papers, 192 conference papers and 36 research reports and abstracts. His total publications are 359.

Associate Professor Dr Ataur Rahman is an active researcher in water and environmental engineering. He has authored/co-authored 359 scholarly publications. He has received research grant worth over $600,000. He is serving in the Editorial Board of Journal of Hydrologic Engineering (ASCE), Australasian Journal of Water Resources, Water (published from Switzerland), Journal of Flood Engineering and Journal of Hydrology and Environment Research. He served as the Project Leader of Australian Rainfall and Runoff Revision Project 5- Regional Flood Methods. He is the Principal Author of Chapter 3 Book 3 of Australian Rainfall and Runoff. He is the co-developer of ARR RFFE Model, which is widely used to estimate design floods in ungauged catchments of Australia. He has also made significant contribution to design rainfall (IFD) estimation and rainfall loss estimation projects in the 4th edition of Australian Rainfall and Runoff.
