Professor Murray Killingsworth

Professor Murray Killingsworth

Adjunct Appointment,
Dean's Unit - School of Medicine

Biography

Murray Killingsworth received his PhD in 1989 from UNSW Medicine based on collaborative studies in macular degeneration of the human retina. His research interests are in the pathobiology of chronic inflammation, particularly of retinal disease, renal disease and cancer. He uses the techniques of cryogenic fixation, live cell imaging, histochemistry and electron microscopy to study disease pathogenesis. Digital image analysis is used to generate quantitative data and nanoparticles are employed in immunocytochemistry and correlative microscopy. He is currently investigating new approaches for visualisation of molecular probes at nanometre resolution. In 2010 Murray was made a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Science in the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA). In 2018 he was awarded the Lady Mary Fairfax Distinguished Researcher Award.
