Biography

Tobias is an accomplished healthcare professional with extensive experience as a Clinical Orthoptist. He holds a Master's degree in Orthoptics from the University of Technology Sydney, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Medical Science with a specialisation in Medicinal Chemistry. Tobias has garnered certifications in Diabetic Retinopathy Grading from the University of Melbourne, iSTAT and capillary blood sampling from NSW Health Pathology, 12 Lead ECG from CQ University, and Blephdex Lid Hygienist certification from Optimed.

Currently serving as a Diabetes Retinal Screener and Diabetes Research Assistant at Western Sydney University and Campbelltown Hospital, he has a complex role, being involved in 5 different projects. At Campbelltown Hospital, he efficiently manages the diabetes retinal screening clinic, offering comprehensive clinical services to patients. Notably, Tobias has provided education to medical and podiatry students at the IPL clinics in Macarthur Clinical School, providing valuable insights into the intricate relationship between diabetes and ocular health, while screening patients for diabetic retinopathy.

Moreover, Tobias assumes the crucial responsibilities of a research assistant in the TOBOGM study. In this capacity, he demonstrates his prowess in data curation, meticulous data entry, proficient clinical trial sample transport handling, and follow-ups on missing data. Additionally, Tobias serves as an associate investigator for the Glucose Meter Accuracy Study, adeptly coordinating the study and spearheading the recruitment process alongside a dedicated team of student volunteers. He is also involved in two other diabetes projects, where he actively recruits participants from Campbelltown Hospital and GP clinics around the area.

Before his current endeavours, Tobias showcased his expertise as a Clinical Orthoptist at Nepean Valley Eye Surgeons where he worked full-time and at other places where he worked as a casual or locum. Within this role, he exhibited exceptional skills in conducting comprehensive patient consults, encompassing screenings and assessments for diverse ocular conditions, including cataracts, diabetes-related complications, retinal issues, glaucoma, neurological, ocular muscle, and paediatric eye disorders. Tobias excelled in performing a range of diagnostic procedures, such as vision tests, subjective refractions, OCT scans, visual field tests, neurological tests, strabismus tests, and other assessments, culminating in accurate diagnoses. Furthermore, he actively supported ophthalmologists in specialised interventions, including retinal laser treatments, intravitreal injections, and minor surgical procedures, consistently ensuring optimal patient care.

Tobias's unwavering dedication to healthcare excellence and his substantial expertise across multiple domains makes him a highly regarded and valuable professional in the field. His passion for advancing knowledge and improving patient outcomes drives him to pursue further academic achievements. In line with this commitment, Tobias is preparing to embark on a PhD study in the future.
