Biography
David Tait researches justice policy issues - including justice environments, judicial rituals, court safety and security, and justice technologies.
He is convenor of the Court of the Future Network, and member of a Montreal-based research consortium examining the use of AI in law and justice.
One current project involves developing courtrooms in the metaverse, together with the Fraunhofer Institute in Austria and colleagues in France, the USand several parts of Australia. This will allow court participants to have simulated eye contact and get directional sound, unlike current video conferencing technologies whereparticipants look straight ahead and sound all comes from one place. Most importantly participants see a realistic courtrooms cene with the other participantsembedded in their correct position and at the right distance.
He is also writing abook, with Diane Jones (principal architect at PTW Architects), about courtroom architecture. Together they have just proiduced an analysis ofthe design of international and European courts. The book brings together several decades of research about how the design of courtrooms impact on the experience of justice, how different configurations reflect different traditions and assujptions, and how technology is impacting on all of this.
