A sociologist by background, Sky works across disciplines principally in organisational anthropology, visual and creative arts and peace and conflict studies.  Her research engages questions about who produces knowledge, what knowledge is and how knowledge is produced as a collective enterprise. Her most recent projects focus on power, affect and epistemological assumptions in the creation of knowledge. These projects emphasise the role of reflexivity, resistance, and the imaginary in the generation of alternative knowledge production spaces, such as collectives and commons-based initiatives. In March 2021 she organised a project exploring the concepts of ‘light community’ (Manzini 2020) and wicked problems (or complex challenges). This project engaged Sydney based artists to reflect on the environmental practice of Rewilding and was part of Art Month Sydney 2020. 

Sky current research projects explore transdiciplinary learning and teaching, problem and project based approaches to wicked problems and collective and commons based self organising groups. 

Other interests include network representation and theory, and the use of natural language mapping software for text analytics and network analysis. In 2020 she applied these skills to a project for the Whitlam Institute, where she analysed over one million words to explore what matters to young people. Sky also has extensive research experience with young people, sexuality and gender equity issues.

In 2021 Sky worked with Indigispace, Move and Groove, Sydney Commons Lab, Superorganism collective and First Innovators on knowledge translation projects.
