Biography

Dr Öznur Sahin is a researcher with the Challenging Racism Project in the School of Social Sciences. She received her PhD from the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. Situated at the intersection of a broad range of fields of human geography, urban studies, gender and cultural studies, her PhD examined the secular and religious politics of place and urban identity, urban governance and urban public space, the urban politics of national ceremonies and commemorations and the gendered dynamics of space in Istanbul. Öznur has contributed to research and teaching in the areas of racism and anti-racism, multiculturalism and cultural diversity, urban management and planning, and research methodologies.
