Biography

Marini has two decades of collective professional experience in academia, building industry and public sector. She completed her PhD in Built Environment from University of New South Wales, Sydney with a scholarship from the CRC for Low Carbon Living. She has obtained her MSc in Architecture and BSc in Built Environment degrees from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

 Upon successful completion of her post graduate studies in 2004 she joined University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka as an academic and contributed to the Architecture programmes (both undergraduate and postgraduate) for successful accreditation by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).  She was the Course Coordinator for the MSc in Architecture programme conducted by the University of Moratuwa until she left Sri Lanka to pursue her doctoral studies in 2014.

Concurrent to being an academic in the field of Built Environment, she is an overseas registered Architect (accredited by RIBA) and has been involved in many landmark building projects. Marini has also been in public sector service for NSW Department of Planning and Environment, as a member of the State Policy and Strategic Advice division. She has contributed to the NSW State Environmental Planning Policy (Sustainable Buildings) 2022 and the BASIX Materials Index.

 She is currently teaching in Construction Management, Building Design Management and Architecture programs. Her current research work is in subject areas of Sustainable design and policy, NetZero carbon, Embodied carbon in construction materials and Digitalisation of construction.
