Biography

Dr Andy Grainger is a lecturer in sport development in the School of Health Sciences. His research and teaching focuses on the globalization and commercialization of sport, physical culture, and physical activity. His areas of interest include:

  • The politics of sport and physical culture
  • The globalization and commercialization of sport
  • The politics and practices of the global sport media
  • Sport, culture, and advertising
  • Athletic talent migration, citizenship, and national identity
  • Sport, culture, and national identity.

Andy's current research explores the intersections of sport policy, sport diplomacy, and the FIFA Women’s Football World Cup, including the myths and realities of major sport event ‘legacy’ and the symbolic politics of the tournament.
