Biography

Kathyis an associate professor in Economics, Finance and Property in the School of Business, Senior Research Fellow in the Translational Health Research Institute, and Senior Health Economist with Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Translational Research Unit (DOMTRU).  She has an active research program examining the health and economic cost of residential fire using NSW population level linked data study using hospital, ambulance, deaths, fire incidents, computer aided dispatch, general insurance claims and burns unit (for incidents from 2005 to 2019) for the period up to 2022. Kathy is currently supervising 7 PhD students in total with 5 on industry sourced scholarships. She has over 90 publications (journal articles and industry reports). The research work she undertakes has been predominantly applied with strong impact factor. The evaluation she took for Fire and Rescue NSW on the pilot Home Fire Safety Checks (HFSCs) programdemonstrated that for every $1 spent on HFSC would have savings of $12. This finding led to further funding and support for $4 million and has enabled the delivery and increased fire protection to more than 10,000 houses throughout NSW. Her research on long term jobless families resulted in federal government funding for employment specific infrastructure projects in certain regions of the country.
