Western's Social Science courses aim to provide students with the skills to consciously and ethically pursue social justice and social change within their chosen fields in Western Sydney, the wider community and globally. Students are offered frameworks to think critically, innovate and independently evaluate the shifting social worlds around them.

Zoom is video conferencing software that supports face-to-face meetings online. This means that although you may not be physically in the same room, you can connect and see the faces of classmates, teachers and friends from anywhere in the world! 

Getting started

Zoom is free to download and easy to access from PC’s, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Install Zoom via the link below. Once downloaded, you can sign in through your app or online.

The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is aimed at graduates of Social Sciences and other Human Services programs who wish to achieve a professional qualification in social work. In addition to emerging with a Master qualification, students will also be equipped with the practical education required to meet Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) standards.

The Postgraduate Bridging Program Social Work offers the kind of foundation essential for success in postgraduate programs such as the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) and is specifically tailored to those students who do not have a background in Health, Education, or Society and Culture. Students who successfully complete this course can enter the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

Graduates of this degree can look forward to career opportunities as an art therapist working in the health sector, community organisations and private practice.

Graduates can look forward to career opportunities in planning and management in local, state, and federal government agencies or the private sector; zoning and land use; social policy development; and sustainability and the environment.

Successful graduates can work as a counsellor with a wide range of client groups and problems across the spectrum, including grief and loss, relationship and family issues, life-stage issues, parenting, the effects of social and economic disadvantage, racism, family violence, sexual assault, problem gambling, and alcohol and other drug dependencies.
