Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Confirmation of Identity:

  • identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and submit documentation declaring and confirming Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity.

Enrolment:

  • New or continuing student

Program/s:

  • Bachelor of Tourism and Event Management
  • Bachelor of Science (preference for a major in Zoology)
  • Bachelor of Advance Science (preference for a major in Zoology)
  • Bachelor of Communication
  • Any double degree combined with a Bachelor of Communication
  • Bachelor of Business (preference for Accounting, Applied Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management and Marketing majors. Not including majors in Property and Sports Management.
  • Any double degree combined with a Bachelor of Business (preference for Accounting, Applied Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management and Marketing majors. Not including majors in Property and Sports Management.
  • Bachelor of Natural Science (continuing students only)

Sydney Zoo

Sydney Zoo was founded in 2015 with the aim of creating amazing experiences for the local and international community by introducing them to a range of animal species from all over the world while also educating them on animal welfare and conservation. Sydney Zoo was founded in 2015 with the aim of creating amazing experiences for the local and international community by introducing them to a range of animal species from all over the world while also educating them on animal welfare and conservation.

Sydney Zoo is the sponsor of three scholarships as part of its partnership with Western Sydney University, with two scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous students studying in a field associated with the zoo.

Application and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement supporting their application indicating how they believe receiving the scholarship will assist them with their studies and future careers. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, ability to meet the criteria, and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.

In addition, applicants must demonstrate the rationale for seeking an equity-based scholarship (including but not limited to socio-economic challenges).

  • Recipients must remain enrolled at Western.
  • Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 4.
