Kamal Dua
Kamal Dua is an award-winning pharmaceutics and drug delivery researcher who has deep roots in research, teaching and industry spanning three nations and two continents. Being a highly motivated researcher, Dr Dua's career is dedicated to improving outcomes in healthcare through his initiatives in formulation and biomedical research.
Dr Dua is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the NICM Health Research Institute and the School of Science, Western Sydney University. He has been recognised as one of Australia’s Top 250 Researchers in 2026, 2025 and 2024 by Research Magazine, 'The Australian', in the field of Health and Medical Sciences. He was ranked #1 Research Leader in Pharmacology and Pharmacy (2026, 2025) and Toxicology (2024).
With over 17 years of research experience, Professor Dua specialises in advanced drug delivery systems targeting inflammatory diseases. His research integrates two complementary domains; drug delivery and immunology, exploring how their convergence can advance therapeutic innovation and contribute to longer, healthier lives.
His interests include harnessing the pharmaceutical potential of phytoceuticals, nutraceuticals, and functional foods, and advancing their delivery and evaluation at the cellular and molecular levels to optimise therapeutic efficacy.
His work also involves modulating key biological regulators, such as interleukins and microRNAs. Professor Dua also specialises in developing new and effective drug delivery formulations for managing inflammation in chronic airway diseases and cancer.
