Sustainable Growth

Western is committed to sustainable growth by reducing its environmental footprint across all of the campuses (Western Sydney University Strategic Plan (opens in a new window)) and implementing initiatives for renewable energies and sustainable practices in our supply chain.

We measure and report the university's consumption and resulting emissions to a range of bodies including the Clean Energy Regulator, Climate Active, Tertiary Education and Facilities Management Association and Times Higher Education.

Energy

ENERGY
We measure consumption in gigajoules (GJ) for electricity, natural gas and fuel (petrol, diesel etc) where usage is under our operational control.

Carbon Dioxide Equivalent

GHG (Greenhouse Gas Emissions)
We measure GHG emissions in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e) under Scopes 1, 2 and 3.

Times Higher Education Impact Ranking data are annually submitted in the metrics and formats requested by Times Higher Education.

Waste and Recycling

WASTE AND RECYCLING
Waste generated by university operations is reported in tonnes (t) in a variety of waste streams and categories. Waste destinations are split as diverted (recycled) or sent to landfill.

Water

WATER
We measure consumption in kilolitres (kL) for potable, recycled, harvested and extracted water.
