Construction of the Western Sydney Airport must set-up a viable Modern Construction Industry in NSW
This week will see the first of many important conversations about how this important new addition to Western Sydney's future will unfold. The project is bold and rich with potential. It is important that the Western Sydney construction industry does not feel disengaged from this project, or by it being too big and beyond their capacity to contribute. This is a unique opportunity for a government - client to direct at least part of its attention to the legacy that this project should deliver to facilitate a sustainable modern construction industry in Western Sydney and the companion regions of the Illawarra and Hunter. David Borger is a wonderful advocate for this project. He is also a strong advocate for the Western Sydney University's new Centre for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC). David will host the Western Sydney Construction Industry launch of the Centre at the University's Parramatta South Campus at 8.00am on the 16th November 2017.

AIMS - c4SMC is an industry collaboration embracing smart technologies and processes in delivering a modern construction industry. It will support actions to;
- Maximise the potential of the construction industry in Western Sydney, and beyond, in response to the challenges of sustainability, digitalisation, industrialisation, globalisation, project assurance and resilience affecting construction world-wide
- Deliver practical, innovative teaching and research at the university to enable the next generation of constructors and their enterprises to thrive both 'on and off-site'
THE CENTRE WILL INVEST IN:
- Undergraduate scholarships for construction management students
- Research grants to investigate new modern construction knowledge that has a practical application with potential industry impact within 3 to 5- years
- Visiting academics Academic and Research exchanges to fast track the best smart modern construction developments from around the world into our CM program
- Exchange programs for WSU academics and industry to visit Modern Construction hot spots to directly witness practical applications that could be deployed locally
- A SmartBuild Lab on the Kingswood Campus to be used for practical demonstration of modern building techniques for the benefit of students, the Western Sydney construction industry and other national and international collaborators.
The Centre will invest in developing the capabilities that modern constructors will need to launch their careers and to develop modern construction enterprises like those that could result from the Western Sydney Airport and other planned infrastructure over the next 20-years. Western Sydney University Construction Management graduates will be the ones who work with and lead Western Sydney construction enterprises. By 2025 over 1500 new constructors are expected to graduate. We are committed to making them future ready. To be part of this important initiative - come along and hear more.
