Biography

Dr Nasim Foroughi is a Researcher at Western Sydney University currently working on weight management trials involving patients with eating disorders and mental health problems. She is an Affiliate researcher in the Discipline of Exercise, Health & Performance and in the Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences, Breast Cancer Research Group at The University of Sydney. She is a researcher with over 7 years experience in age-related chronic diseases (e.g. Osteoarthritis, Dementia, & Breast cancer) and mental health research based on randomised controlled trials (RCT) and systematic reviews. During her postgraduate studies she developed a biomechanical gait model for patients suffering from osteoarthritis to improve quality of life and reduce the forces on the lower limb joints. She has been awarded a 4-year scholarship from Shiraz University of Iran in Clinical Biomechanics (2004), a 3-year competitive post doctorate research fellowship from the University of Sydney in Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences (2010). She has been an associate investigator on a NHMRC grant (Project ID: APP1021608) in Breast lymphedema (2012) and a RIG grant.

She has published 36 (or in press) scientific articles, which have received about 469 citations (overall H-index of 11 on Google Scholar). Her research in the area of biomechanics has lead to the publication of a book titled: Osteoarthritic Gait Characteristics Following Resistance Exercise (Foroughi et al, 2010). Her publications now receive many citations per year, and this number has been increasing consistently in the last 5 years. She serves as Editorial board member for 2 international journals including The Knee (UK). Dr Foroughi is currently co-supervising one PhD student, and has successfully co-supervised international and national PhD, Master, and Honours students to completion.
