Dr Seyed Shahrestani

Position

Senior Lecturer in computing and Information and communication technology

Biography

Seyed completed his PhD degree in Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney. He joined Western Sydney University in 1999, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer. He is also the head of the Networking, Security and Cloud Research (NSCR) group at the University.

His main teaching and research interests include: computer networking, management and security of networked systems, analysis, control and management of complex systems, artificial intelligence applications, and health ICT. He is also highly active in higher degree research training supervision, with successful results.

Seyed has established collaborations with several researchers and groups around the globe. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. Seyed’s research in complex systems, has resulted in establishment of a framework for global control of complex nonlinear, and possibly chaotic, systems. In addition to introducing new concepts and strategies, the framework utilizes established methods for analysis and control of complex nonlinear systems but with new intent. In computer networking, Seyed’s research has provided some original solutions to problems in two important aspects of the Internet, namely: network security and management. These works include novel approaches and the use of AI and particularly fuzzy logic and soft computing to enhance modeling and management of large networks and enterprises.
