Biography
Associate Professor Evan Atlantis is a distinguished researcher and educator specialising in clinical obesity and its associated chronic illnesses. With a twenty-year track record, they have authored over eighty publications, with 57% as first author, accumulating approximately 7,000 citations. Their research has directly shaped national and international policy and clinical practice guidelines, notably through their leadership of foundational Frameworks for clinical obesity services.
Associate Professor Atlantis's impressive publication record and the practical influence of their scholarly contributions have positioned them within the top 0.5% of all scholars worldwide. This earned them 'Top Scholar – Lifetime' status for their expertise in obesity, according to the latest 2024 ScholarGPS® rankings, acknowledging their career-long accomplishments.
Beyond their research expertise, Associate Professor Atlantis is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of researchers and clinicians. They have successfully mentored and supervised numerous Higher Degree Research and Medical Degree students, fostering an inclusive and supportive research environment. They have also mentored several medical graduates undertaking Advanced Training in General Medicine and Endocrinology in clinical research. As the founding co-director of the Western Obesity Worldwide (WOW) research collective, they are at the forefront of innovative research, dedicated to translating discoveries into tangible real-world impact.
Associate Professor Atlantis is also a highly respected leader in the field of obesity management. They served as the founding President of the National Association of Clinical Obesity Services (NACOS) and continue to play a pivotal role in its governance as Secretary and education leadership in the development of the NACOS Certification Project. Under their leadership, NACOS has flourished, becoming the peak body representing over 2,500 healthcare professionals specialising in clinical obesity services across Australia.
