Associate Professor in Translational Health Research

Biography

Dr Tinashe Dune (MAPS) is a multi-award-winning researcher, tertiary educator, and Senior Clinical Psychologist with extensive qualifications and experience who brings a unique, culturally-informed perspective to her work. Her holistic approach draws from various therapeutic modalities, tailoring interventions to each client's needs. Dr Dune's expertise spans complex trauma, disability, and sexuality concerns, with a special focus on neurodiversity-affirming assessments for often overlooked groups. Beyond her clinical work, she's an accomplished academic with over 150 scholarly publications. Dr Dune's passion for inclusive, comprehensive care makes her an invaluable leader in our clinic, committed to nurturing wellbeing across diverse communities.

As a result of her academic work Dr Dune has been nationally recognised by the Council of Academic Public Health Insitutions Australia and Western Sydney University for her excellence and innovation in Public Health teaching. She has also been recognised as an ambassador against bigotry and an advocate for diversity and inclusion by the Australian National University’s Freilich Foundation. Dr Dune’s expertise in the area of marginalisation and health is also endorsed by the publication of her research in high quality journals, books, book chapters and national policy documents as well as a multitude of media outlets such as SBS and the ABC.

Her work is supported by several years of hands-on community and NGO outreach work across Australia and internationally. She worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland with the Violence, Injury and Disability and Reproductive Health Research Units. She has had roles as Honorary Research Fellows at the University of Sydney and the University of New England. In her role as Director, Research and Development for African Women Australia she actively engages with academic, industry and community stakeholders to conduct and implement translational research. Dr Dune also advocates and engages with national and international stakeholders in her role as co-Convenor of the Public Health Association Australia' Women's Health Group.
