Ethical research with marginalised populations

Monday 26 March

This workshop will cover ethical principles for study design, methodology and completion of ethics applications when working with marginalised populations and sensitive health topics.

Facilitators:  Dr Elizabeth Conroy & Dr Chloe Parton

Conducting recruitment

Monday 23 April

This workshop will cover practical procedures and knowledge for recruiting online through social media, as well as with community services.

Facilitators: Dr Chloe Parton & Dr Elizabeth Conroy

Preparation: Write a paragraph describing recruitment plan for your project and bring this to the workshop.

Designing and conducting qualitative interviews

Monday 14 May

This workshop will provide an introduction to the craft of designing and conducting qualitative interviews. Students will have a chance to trial practical interview skills in the workshop, with particular consideration of working with sensitive topics.

Mixed methods research: Making a data analysis plan

Monday 2 July

This workshop will work with students who are conducting a mixed method project to formulate a quantitative analysis plan.

Facilitators: Prof Janette Perz & Dr Kate McBride

Preparation: Draft analysis plan worksheet will be distributed. This needs to be completed prior to the workshop.

Doing reflexivity in research

Monday 9 July

This workshop will cover what reflexivity is, and what it means to do reflexivity in research.

Facilitators: Prof Jane Ussher & Dr Chloe Parton

Preparation:  Reading material will be circulated prior to the workshop.

Who is the workshop for? All students doing qualitative analysis, however all students can benefit.

Doing qualitative analysis: Coding your data

Monday 13 August

This workshop will cover the initial stages of coding data as part of conducting a qualitative analysis.

Facilitators: Dr Chloe Parton, Dr Elizabeth Conroy & Prof Jane Ussher

Preparation:  All qualitative data needs to be collected and interviews transcribed by this date.

Who is the workshop for? All students doing qualitative analysis.

Doing qualitative analysis: Developing themes from coded data

Monday 27 August

This workshop will cover the development of ‘bigger picture’ themes as partof the later stages of conducting a qualitative analysis.

Preparation: All qualitative data needs to be coded by this date.
