Program Specific Progression Rules

Foundation Studies and Undergraduate Preparation Program

A student who has achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) less than 5.0 in a Foundation Studies or Undergraduate Preparation Program will be required to Show Cause as to why they should not be Excluded.

Professional Entry Medical Programs

(1) A student’s academic standing in Professional Entry Medical Programs are assessed on the criteria outlined in this clause only:

• a. In Years 1 - 4 of the Professional Entry Medical Program, the subject of study in each year must be successfully completed before a student is able to progress to the next year
• b. In Year 5 of the Professional Entry Medical Program, the core subject in the first half year term must be successfully completed before progression, and
• c. In Year 5 of the Professional Entry Medical Program, the core subject in the second half year term must be successfully completed before graduation

(2) The outcome of a progression check for Professional Entry Medical Programs may be:

• a. For failing to successfully complete a subject in each of years 1 – 4:

  • i. Students who fail a subject in any one year will be clearly advised that they are At Risk of Exclusion and will be required to repeat the failed subject in their next year of study.

• b. For Years 1 - 5:

  • ii. Students who fail the same subject after two attempts will be required to Show Cause as to why they should not be Excluded from this program for unsatisfactory progression
  • iii. In Year 5, students who fail the assessment at the end of the core subject in the first half year term will be required to undertake a specified alternate subject.

(3) A student who is Excluded from a Professional Entry Medical Program for unsatisfactory progression may transfer to another program at the University under the Program Transfer Policy

Graduate Diploma in Child Health

Progression in the Graduate Diploma in Child Health will be assessed following each block.

As this program is ungraded, a student’s progression will be assessed based on attempted credit points for the term, with the following rules in place:

• Students who pass 50% or more of their registered credit points will maintain a progression outcome of Good Standing
• Students who fail 50% or more of their registered credit points for the term will receive a progression outcome of At Risk of Conditional Enrolment
• Students who is At Risk and they fail 50% or more of their registered subjects for the term will be placed on Conditional Enrolment
• Students who is on Conditional Enrolment and they fail 50% or more of their registered subjects for the term they will be Excluded from the program

Multiple Subject Fail

• Students who fail a subject (or its equivalent) twice will be placed on Conditional Enrolment
• Students who fail the same subject for a third time will be Excluded from the program

Diploma in Culture, Society and Justice

Students in this program study in Block Mode (intensive) delivery while also completing a preparatory subject across multiple blocks.

Progression for students in this program will be assessed every four blocks. Each stage of the Progression Policy will be implemented for this cohort.
