English Language Proficiency

English Language Proficiency (ELP) is an admission requirement for Western Sydney University programs. All applicants must satisfy this requirement, however not all applicants have to provide proof of proficiency in English.

This information is for domestic applicants applying to Western Sydney University for undergraduate and postgraduate (coursework) study who are:

• an Australian or New Zealand citizen
• a permanent resident of Australia
• the holder of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa.

English Language Requirements

If you have not completed formal studies at secondary or tertiary level in the English language or have undertaken studies in another country, you may need to demonstrate proficiency in English by achieving a prescribed level in an approved English examination. The commonly accepted English Proficiency tests include the:

• International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Academic
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
• Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic

Details of the minimum English proficiency requirements and approved English language test or equivalent are outlined in the English language proficiency information and tables on the UAC website.

Only results obtained in English Proficiency (EP) tests (such as IELTS and TOEFL) in the two years prior to admission will be accepted. STAT is no longer accepted for English proficiency purposes. All other qualifications will be accepted for 10 years.

If your English is below the required score, you may wish to enrol in a pre-university English program at Western Sydney University, The College.
