- Access to a dedicated Veteran Support Officer
- Special consideration
- Priority timetabling
- Tailored career support sessions
- Subsidised health clinic services
- Free psychology therapy services
- Welfare
- Counselling
- Disability services
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Western recognises the valuable skills, knowledge, and experience you’ve gained through your service in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). We understand that your military background brings unique strengths and
perspectives to university life, and we are committed to supporting your transition into higher education.
As part of this commitment, you may be eligible for a range
of tailored support options, including:
- Admission pathways Your ADF service record, rank, and completed military training may be considered when assessing your eligibility for admission. This means you could gain entry into a course based on your service, even if you don't meet the standard academic entry requirements.
This table below provides an indication of the equivalent admission selection rank based on your service history. Western Sydney University will assess your application based on the supporting documentation that you provide as part of your admission.
Military Rank | 1-3 Years Experience | 3+ Years Experience |
---|---|---|
- Defence Force Senior Officer - Commissioned Defence Force Officer - Senior Non-Commissioned Defence Force Officer | 83 Equivalent Selection Rank | 92 Equivalent Selection Rank |
Defence Force Member - Other Ranks | 73 Equivalent Selection Rank | 75 Equivalent Selection Rank |
- Credit towards your degree through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - You may be able to receive credit towards your degree for the skills and knowledge acquired during your ADF training and service. This can reduce the number of subjects you need to complete, helping you finish your degree sooner and reduce study costs.
These pathways reflect Western’s ongoing commitment to supporting veteran and defence community members in achieving their academic
and career goals. For more information, we encourage you to get in touch with our Student Veteran Services team.
