Biography

Professor Razeen Sappideen joined UWS as Foundation Professor of Law in 1994, and was for some time Dean of Law. Professor Sappideen holds the LLM (Hons) Syd, LLM (Pennsylvania) in Tax Law, LLM (Columbia) in Corporations Law, and the JSD (Columbia) in the area of Acquisitions and Mergers Law. He is admitted as a Solicitor and has been a Consultant to several leading Law and Accounting firms. He was a Visiting Fellow of Wolfson College and the Faculty of Laws Cambridge University in 2009/2010, Oxford University 2010-2011, and was the Tun Ismail Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Malaya for 2011-13, and a Visiting Fellow at  The University of Hamburg Law and Economics Institute and The Max Planck Institute Hamburg in 2014. Professor Sappideen is also Chair of the International Governance Cluster of the Law School. His most recent publications include (1) Dispute Resolution in investment treaties: balancing the rights of investors and host states (with Dr Ling Ling He), (2015) 49(2) Journal of World Trade; (2) Corporate Governance in search of the Shareholder Manager balance of power, (2015), 14 Richmond Journal of Global Law and Business (forthcoming); (3) Reflections on changes to China’s Corporate Capital Laws, (2015) Company Lawyer (UK) (forthcoming); and (4) The Regulation of Hedge Funds, (2016) The Journal of Business Law (UK) (forthcoming).
