Biography
Professor Kerry Robinson is in the School of Social Sciences (SoSS) and is the Director of the Diversity and Human Rights Research Centre. Kerry is also a member and former leader of Sexualities & Genders Research (SaGR). Her research interests focus on a broad range of intersecting areas including: gender and sexuality studies; LGBTQ issues; diversity and difference in educational contexts; gender equity; gender and sexuality based violence and sexual harassment; gender and sexuality diversity and young people; sexual citizenship; sexuality education; feminist theory, queer theory and feminist poststructural theory.
Professor Robinson is located in Sociology and Anthropology in the SoSS, lecturing in Gender and sexuality.
Kerry is the recipient of a Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning Award for her innovative curriculum and transformative pedagogies that inspire and motivate students to learn, and scholarly research that enhances learning and teaching. She also received a NSW Minister for Education and Training & The Australian College of Educators Quality Teaching Award; a UWS Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award; and a UWS College of Arts Citation Award for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Professor Robinson was a co-recipient of a WSU Vice Chancellor's Excellence in Reseach Award in 2016.

Professor Robinson is currently working on several research projects:
- WSU Gender Equity Grants (2020): An exploration of WSU Professional and Academic Staff's understanding of trans and gender diversity, of school-based policy and support for trans and gender diverse students and staff, and University policy on gender diversity. Supporting best practice and policy. Research collaborators: Lucy Nicholas, Kerry Robinson and Cris Townley.
- Anti-violence against women and girls and anti-bullying resource for secondary schools project. Research partnership with Western Sydney Wanderers, Parramatta City Council and Western Sydney University. Collaborators: Kerry Robinson, Lucy Nicholas, Jacqueline Ullman, Peter Bansel, Ryan Storr, Susanne Gannon.

Previous Australian Research Council Grants:
Professor Robinson led a three year Australian Research Council Discovery funded project (2011- 2013) titled: 'The tensions for parents, educators and children in building a sustainable culture of ethical and respectful relationships early in life'. This research was in collaboration with Moira Carmody (WSU) and Sue Dyson (LaTrobe). This research was conducted in NSW and Victoria and involved interviews / focus groups with parents, their primary school age children (5-11), and teachers of primary school children. It also included an online survey of parents and teachers of primary school age children. This research explored children's understandings of respect, sexuality and relationships (e.g. marriage, initimacy, love); where children get their information about these issues; how parents perceive and approach children's early sexuality education and learning of respect; and how primary school teachers approach these areas in children's early education.
Kerry led a project titled, 'Performing queer', which was a pilot study exploring the issues facing young people identifying as gender and sexuality diverse (LGBTQ). A research report: 'Growing Up Queer': Issues Facing Australian young people who are gender variant and sexuality diverse was released in 2014.
