Ms Joan Lynch

Joan Lynch has been a lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Western Sydney University for over five years.
Joan is a PhD candidate exploring academic integrity in nursing education. She is currently working to promote academic integrity in nursing education by developing academic standards of practice, a focus on learning to enable academic integrity and authentic assessment design.
Joan’s clinical background includes over 23 years’ experience working in intensive care and emergency. She has postgraduate qualifications in intensive care and trauma nursing. As a foundation member of the Critical Care Research in Collaboration and Evidence Translation (CCRICET) research group, Joan works in collaboration with clinicians across South Western Sydney Local Health District to undertake clinical research. She is currently a chief investigator evaluating a nurse-led intervention to reduce the incidence and severity of delirium among patients admitted to the ICU.
Joan loves nursing for the diversity it offers, during her career she has worked for the New South Wales Institute of Trauma and Injury Management developing state-wide evidence-based guidelines to care for injured people and as a senior planner in the South-West Sydney local health district developing service plans and models of care.
Joan is a regulatory assessor for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NSW) and AHPRA, where she undertakes performance assessments of practitioners to maintain public safety and minimise risk by ensuring clinicians practice is safe and in accordance with the professional standards (NMBA, 2016 & 2018) and Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW).
Over the next decade in clinical practice, Joan looks forward to undertaking nursing-led research in the Intensive Care that will improve the patients experience of health care. And in university sector, she aims to embed the values of academic integrity throughout the undergraduate nursing program to develop professional, critically thinking beginner practitioners.

Crtical Care Research in Collaboration and Evidence Translation (CCRICET) is a research group established between Academics largely from Western and clinicians from Sydney South West LHD.
The aim of CCRICET is to answer clinical questions by either undertaking systematic review and meta-analysis if there is sufficient good quality evidence or if not, undertake primary research using appropriate methodology. To date CCRICET has undertaken research on (see publications tab for links):
-the effectiveness of chlorhexidine bathing to reduce the burden of MRO's in the ICU
-evalaution of a nurse-led intervention to reduce the incidence of delirium in the ICU
Our next project is working with an industry partner B BRAUN to evaluate the effectiveness of Hyper Oxygenated Fatty Acids (HOFA) in reducing facial pressure injuries from medical devices.
