Doctor Steven Trankle

Adjunct Fellow,
Dean's Unit - School of Medicine

Biography

Dr Trankle has an academic background in Psychology and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. He has experience with a range of research methodologies and their consonant theoretical approaches. His quantitative research evaluated the predictive and cross-cultural utility of two health belief measures on health behaviour. His PhD research involved a qualitative examination of the end-of-life decisions and practices of physicians, and their subsequent experiences. Focused toward Australian critical/acute and palliative settings, this research identified strategies for better integrating broad-reaching specialised end-of-life care across settings.

Dr Trankle's expertise in areas of mental health and integrated health care has engaged him in research involving a mixed methods analysis of the Partners in Recovery Program in Nepean Blue Mountains using program logic modelling and a qualitative evaluation of the Western Sydney Integrated Care Program. His more recent and current research involves a qualitative evaluation of quality improvement initiatives designed to increase cancer screening rates in the Nepean Blue Mountains region, and mixed methods evaluations of an afterhours telehealth pilot in aged care facilities in Nepean Blue Mountains and a new integrated care program (My Care Partners) in south western Sydney.

Since 2017 Dr Trankle has attracted external research funding of over $870,000. He has published research and presented his work at numerous national and international conferences.  Dr Trankle has also been engaged in psychology-based academic teaching roles including unit coordination at the Western Sydney University (WSU) since 2010. He supervises research students including MBBS Honours and GP registrars. Dr Trankle was a member of the WSU Academic Senate 2018-2021 and currently serves on other WSU committees.
