Rakime Elmir is a Senior lecturer and Deputy Director of Clinical Education Midwifery in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. For several years, Rakime has worked in a variety of maternity settings in a large teaching Hospital. She completed her PhD in 2012 which focused on women's experiences of severe postpartum haemorrhage and emergency hysterectomy. Rakime has successfully led a number of research projects on birth trauma and the psychosocial impact on mothers, fathers and midwives. Rakime also has a keen interest in clinical learning for nursing and midwifery students and is leading a project on clinical placement preparedness for nursing and midwifery students. Rakime was the co-creator of the first national branded Hijab to be introduced at university along with resources to support nursing and midwifery students on clinical placement and the clinical practice units at university. Her work on the Hijab initiative has received recognition by the Vice Chancellor for Excellence in University Engagement and Sustainability - highly commended and Citation for outstanding contribution to student learning - winner.
