Biography

Rakime Elmir is a Senior lecturer, Director of Academic Career Development and Academic Program Advisor - Midwifery. Rakime has experience as a clinical midwife and educator across a number maternity settings. She completed her PhD in 2012 which focused on women's experiences of severe postpartum haemorrhage and emergency hysterectomy. Rakime has successfully led a number of research projects on birth trauma and the psychosocial impact on mothers, fathers and midwives using qualitative and mixed methods research designs. Rakime also has an interest in clinical learning for nursing and midwifery students and the transition students make to the clinical setting. Rakime was the co-creator of the first national branded Hijab to be introduced at university along with resources to support Mulsim nursing and midwifery students on clinical placement and the clinical practice units at university. Rakime's teaching and learning, research and leadership has received recognition by the Vice Chancellor for Excellence in University Engagement and Sustainability, Citation for outstanding contribution to student learning, SONM Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the receipient of 14th Australian Muslim Achievement Awards - professional of the year.
