Biography

Dr Md Kamrul Hassan is a Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering at School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, Western Sydney University. Dr Kamrul completed his PhD in Structural Engineering in January 2016, Western Sydney University, Australia; MSc degree in Civil and Structural Engineering in 2011 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia and BSc degree in Civil Engineering in 2008 from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh. Dr Kamrul has around eight years of multi-disciplinary research and teaching experience in the fields of Fire Engineering, Post-fire behaviour of steel and concrete materials, Steel-concrete composite technology, Prefabricated composite structures, Sustainable building construction materials, Energy-efficient and fire-retardant materials, cladding material testing, Finite element modelling using ABAQUS, and FDS (Fire Dynamic Simulator) modelling.

After completing his PhD degree in 2016, he has been supervising 10 PhD Students, 25 Master students, and 14 Undergraduate students, as either principal supervisor or co-supervisor. Till now, four of his PhD students (Dr Utsab Katwal in 2018, Dr Richard Shuaibu in 2021, Dr Xingqing Wang in 2022 and Dr Md Jaynul Abden in 2022) completed their PhD degree successfully.  He is a full registered Principal Supervisor (Doctorate) in Graduate Supervisor Register at WSU. Dr Kamrul has published more than 70 research articles including Books, Journal articles, national and International Conference papers. He has experience to work on ARC and Industrial Partnership projects. He has been successfully secured five Industrial Fire Related Projects ($101,500).  Dr Kamrul led three international conferences in Australia & Bangladesh. He is a Leading Guest Editor for Sustainability - Open Access Journal: Sustainable development in prefabrication (JCR Q2; IF: 3.251) and Buildings journal. He is also a recognised reviewer for Elsevier, Springers, MDPI journals.
