Associate Professor Mary Mooney

Biography
Adjunct Professor Mary Mooney was Deputy Dean of the School of Education from 2012- 2018. She is a teacher and researcher in drama education, arts curriculum, creative pedagogy, effective teaching, screen-based drama, performative youth arts, creativity and gender representation in Australian plays.
She was a Chief Investigator (CI) on the longitudinal study Evaluating the impacts of the Fresh AIR Initiative 2014-2016 funded by the Federal Government through the Australia Council and managed by Arts NSW. She has been a CI on the ARC Linkage project Enabling Schooling Success partnering with NSW DEC (2009-2013), which progressed from the Positive Behaviour for Learning Research Partnershipproject (2006–2007) with the NSW DET Western Sydney Region. She was also a researcher and author on the Exemplary Teachers for a Fair Go ARC Linkage project in partnership with the NSW DEC. She was a researcher on the international collaborative project, Water Reckoning Digital Drama project investigating environmental sustainability, online learning and process drama.
Her key roles with the NSW Education Standards Authority (previously Board of Studies) have been Deputy Chair of the 7-12 Drama Syllabus committee preparing the first HSC Drama Syllabus (1990–1993); Deputy Chair then Chair of the Years 7-12 Drama Curriculum Committee (2001–2003); Senior Examiner for the Higher School Certificate Drama (1993—1998); Drama representative on the NSW K-6 Creative Arts Syllabus Committee (1997–2000).

Most recently Mary was a Chief Investigator (CI) on the longitudinal study Evaluating the impacts of the Fresh AIR Initiative 2014-2016 funded by the Federal Government through the Australia Council and managed by Arts NSW. Mary contributed to the submission, qualitative research and reporting as a CI for the ARC Linkage project Enabling Schooling Success partnering with NSW DEC (2009-2013), which progressed from the Positive Behaviour for Learning Research Partnership project (2006–2007) with the NSW DET Western Sydney Region. Mary was also a researcher and author on the Exemplary Teachers for a Fair Go ARC Linkage project in partnership with the NSW DEC. Mary was a researcher on the international collaborative research project, Water Reckoning Digital Drama which investigated environmental sustainability, online learning and process drama. In addition, Mary was the lead CI on the teacher education and early career teacher Office for Teaching and Learning (OLT) project. This significant report Teachers Matter: Models for Effective Teaching in Low SES Schools (2015) was undertaken in collabortation of teacher education providers across Australia on behalf of the Australian Council of Deans of Education in partnership with Social Ventures Australia.
