Biography

Dr Ashiq Rahman has multi-disciplinary academic background in water and environmental engineering and management, combined with 20 years of teaching, research and industry experience in both developed and developing economies. Currently, he is a Sessional Lecturer and Unit Convenor at Western Sydney University. Prior to this he was a full-time Faculty Member for eight years at North South University, Bangladesh. Ashiq has conducted research and has published scholarly articles on diverse issues including Water engineering, water quality assessment, pollution management, climate change and sustainability of natural resources. He is highly experienced in developing curriculum for water and environment discipline and has supervised around twenty research students’ theses. Besides being an academic, he has also worked for government agencies of Bangladesh and the USA. In his role as the Project Management Specialist serving for the United States Agency for International Development, he has managed IEE and EIA tasks for development projects of a portfolio of $200 million per year in Bangladesh. Ashiq is also involved in voluntary activities for bush care and stream watch within Georges River catchment area of NSW.
