Biography

Associate Professor Zhong-Hua Chen joined Western Sydney University in 2011. He has expertise in plant physiology, molecular and systems biology. He worked as a University Research Associate in Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) and a postdoctoral fellow in University of Glasgow. Dr Chen's research work combines plant physiology, plant biotechnology, molecular biology, evolutionary bioinformatics, and cell biology techniques to solve important issues in agricultural and plant science. Zhong-Hua’s research work shows high quality and impact in science and primary industries. Since 2005, his research has resulted in 65 research publications include high quality research articles on Proceedings of National Academy of Science USA and on the top Plant Sciences journals such as Trends in Plant Science, The Plant Cell, Plant Physiology, New Phytologist, and The Plant Journal. He has obtained research grants from the ARC, HIA, CRDC, GRDC, and AISRF in the past five years. Zhong-Hua has also received a range of research awards including the 2014 Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA), the 2013 Australian Government Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Award, and the 2013 Science and Innovation Awards to Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Zhong-Hua is also Associate Dean International and Academic Course Adviser for Agriculture at School of Science and Health of Western Sydney University. He is the Unit coordinator for Agriculture, Food & Health, Sustainable Food Production and Greenhouse Technology for Food Sustainability. He also teaches into a few other Units of the Natural Science and Science programs. He is currently co-supervising seven PhD and two Masters students. He has been the Editor in Chief for Plant Growth Regulation since 2013 and a regular reviewer for over 40 international journals such as Nature Communications.

6.)  Extensive experience in the application of transcriptomics and proteomics for researching plant molecular evolution and abiotic stress

7.) Very good statistical and mathematical programming skills for cellular homeostatic modelling

8.) Very good experience in classic and molecular genetics and mark-assisted plant breeding
