Biography

Lucy Hobby completed her Bachelor of Social Science at the University of Western Sydney, majoring in Psychology and sub-majoring in Criminology. She obtained a position on the Dean’s Merit List for academic achievement in each year of undergraduate study, and graduated with Distinction in 2006, earning her the Dean’s Medal for outstanding achievement. In 2007, she gained a First Class Honours with her thesis examining the structure of, and gender and developmental differences in cyber bullying amongst secondary students, and was the recipient of the prestigious University Medal. Lucy completed her PhD at the Australian Catholic University in 2014, and graduated in early 2016. Her thesis investigated the impact of differing schooling contexts on high achieving students’ academic and biopsychosocial outcomes. Her PhD was nominated for the ACU Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in the PhD thesis, and the Ray Debus Award for Doctoral Research in Education. Lucy has extensive research experience in: coordinating large scale research projects, quantitative and qualitative data collection, data analysis using state of the art statistical techniques, grant application processes, and quantitative instrument development. Lucy’s main research interests include educational issues facing all students, and improving life outcomes for children, adolescents, and adults. Additionally, Lucy has considerable university-level teaching experience in: unit coordination, development and presentation of lectures, development and delivery of tutorial materials, and assessment marking across various modalities. Lucy is passionate about creating a high quality teaching experience for tertiary students, driven by depth of knowledge of content, scaffolding of materials, timely and detailed feedback, and making explicit for students the links between unit content and its practical application for their future careers.
