Biography

Valentine is a Curriculum Advisor at Western Sydney University (Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Learning Transformations). Valentine’s role involves developing experiential learning strategies for course and program curriculum enhancement. Valentine received her PhD in Educational Policy and Leadership from The Ohio State University. At Western Sydney University, Valentine has worked with a variety of Schools to design curricula and student engagement opportunities with a community engagement platform. During secondment to The Academy, Valentine worked closely with The Head of The Academy to design four core units, (i) Leadership in a Complex World, (ii) Creativity, Innovation and Design Thinking, (iii) Internship and Community Engagement and (iv) Ethical Leadership

Valentine continues to be actively involved in university-community engagement through her participation as a member of the Scholarship Committee of Engagement Australia (EA) and as a steering committee member of the Canadian Association for Community Service Learning (CACSL).

Valentine recently facilitated round table discussions at conferences in Canada ("Integrating Measurement into Program Activities for Community Transformation (IMPACT)") and in Hong Kong (Global Citizen Scholarship: Considerations for Designing Effective International Service-learning Curricula).

Valentine’s research interests revolve around service-learning as a pedagogical approach to teaching and learning. Valentine has designed service-learning units and taught in Australia, United States of America, Canada and Kenya.
