Business clusters and Inter Organisational Relationships

In 2013 Tim was awarded a PhD for his thesis titled "Cluster dynamics: an investigation of cluster drivers and barriers across a cluster life cycle". This research investigated an Australian based aerospace business cluster with a particular focus on the inter-relationship of cluster drivers and barriers across the life cycle of clusters.  Tim argued that it was not simply the traditional identified drivers and barriers that business clusters should be concerned with. He notes that that cluster drivers and barriers have inter-relationships which may see multiple drivers and/or barriers combining their impact upon the cluster.  Furthermore he showed that cluster drivers and barriers are not mutually exclusive as had previously been suggested.  The inter-relationships identified were also show to change across the life cycle of a cluster.  Overall Tim’s research discovered  a level of dynamism which has not previously been demonstrated in the cluster literature.

Short term international study tours and student mobility

In 2011, 2012 and 2013 Tim has designed short term international study tours for students in Hospitality Management and Sport Management involvong a two week tour to Vietnam.

As part of these study tours Tim has successfully applied for and received funding for these study tours;

  • 2011 - $25,500 from DEWWR as part of the 2011 Study Overseas short-term mobility program
  • 2013 - $43,000  AsiaBound Grants Program from Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education

Tim is currently exploring the academic writings supporting short term study tours with particulalr interest in captuaring the impact of these study tours longitudinally

Experience Economy

Tim has an interest in the Experience Economy and supporting principles.  Having taught in this area Tim is looking to further investigate this area through research with particilar focus on how organisations implement these principles.  Much ofthe existing literature provides examples of what the experience ecoonomy is and examples of where it has been implements, biut there is much less information on how this is implemented.
