Biography

Suzanne Egan undertook her doctoral and post-doctoral studies at the University of Sydney and is interested in exploring the ways in which trauma discourse, concepts, and diagnostic categories in feminist work in the field of sexual assault policy, practice, and service provision. A monograph that brings this scholarship together was recently published by Palgrave Macmillan, ‘Putting feminism to work: Theorising Sexual Violence, Trauma and Subjectivity’. Coming to academia with a history of direct practice, advocacy and activist work, Suzanne aims to contribute to a recentering of community-based ways of knowing, doing and being in scholarly knowledge production processes. To that end she has been involved in community-based research on the issue of sexual harassment and sexual violence in universities and most recently has been privileged to work on a community lead, university-based project on adopting Indigenous Australian pedagogies in preparing culturally competent teachers (CI’s C Burgess & K Thorpe). A co-authored monograph based on this later project is forthcoming. Suzanne has taught on a range of subjects both at WSU and other universities, with a focus a particular focus on gendered violence, research skills and methodologies and social policy.
