Biography

Dr Nicole Bridges is a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations and the Director of Academic Program: Communication, Creative Industries, and Screen Media in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts at Western Sydney University. She is also editor of the Asia Pacific Public Relations Journal, and has around 30 years experience in the retail marketing and public relations field, and 20 years in academia.

Nicole coordinates and teaches three subjects into the Bachelor of Communication and Bachelor of Creative Industries. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to learning and teaching, including the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) Educator of the Year Award in 2020, a Western Sydney University Staff Postgraduate Coursework Study Scholarship in 2020, three Western Sydney University Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2012, 2013 and 2021), two Vice Chancellor's Excellence Awards for Learning and Teaching (2013 and 2015), and a Vice Chancellor's Professional Development Scholarship (2016). In 2020, Nicole was awarded an Advance HE Senior Fellowship through the 21C Western Educational Fellowship Scheme.

Her research interests and publication areas include public relations, social media, peer support, and online communities (with a particular interest in breastfeeding peer support). During her PhD candidature, she was awarded the Mary Paton Research Award 2015/16 and was recently announced as the 2019 Western Sydney University School of Humanities and Communication Arts Early Career Researcher of the Year. In 2021, Nicole embarked on a Master of Education (Leadership) at WSU.
