Biography

Michael Lyons teaches in postgraduate programs offered by the Sydney Graduate School of Management (SGSM) and undergraduate programs offered by the School of Business. Subject areas of his SGSM teaching include industrial relations, workplace change, diversity, labour markets and workforce planning. Subject areas of his undergraduate teaching include industrial relations, work and employment, labour markets, and negotiation.

His research interests cover a variety of contemporary and historical industrial relations and human resource management topics, with a focus on policy and regulation, the children’s services industry, and higher education institutions. This has broadened to also include work health and safety issues and leadership development. His current research projects explore the impact of changes to Australian work health and safety regulation, and the influence of political party affiliation on trade unions.

Dr Lyons has made numerous submissions to parliamentary and government agency inquires on workplace related matters, and given expert witness evidence to industrial tribunals.

Dr Lyons is an elected Health and Safety Representative (HSR) for the UWS Parramatta campus workgroup and chairs the UWS Parramatta campus Health and Safety Committee (HSC).
