Biography

Dr Md Abdul Alim joined the School of Engineering at Western Sydney University (WSU) in January 2021 as an Associate Lecturer. Prior to the commencement to his current role, he had been working as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Engineering since October 2018. At the same time, he was appointed as a part-time research professional in the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering, WSU.

Dr Alim completed his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET, Bangladesh) in 2012 with the highest CGPA (3.95 out of 4.00) in the University’s history in Mechanical Engineering Department which gave him the honour of receiving gold medals from the Prime Minister and President of Bangladesh. He was the top scorer in Mechanical Engineering for year 2012 in whole Bangladesh. In addition, he worked in a private company in Bangladesh for 7 months before joining an energy research group at the University of Malaya as a research assistant. He received his PhD degree in Material Science from Solar Energy Technologies, School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, WSU in 2018. He completed his PhD with 14 publications. One of his research articles was published in Chemical Society Reviews in 2015, which has an impact factor of 40.443.

Dr Alim is the author or co-author of over 40 scholarly publications in the areas of renewable energy, application of nanofluid in heat exchangers, defect chemistry, rainwater harvesting and building integrated photovoltaics. His work has received 1367 citations, and his h-index is 12 in Google Scholar. According to Scopus, 92% of his citations are independent (cited by others). According to Elsevier SciVal, his citations per paper are 2.35 times that of the average researchers in the world, in the field of Energy. The average impact factor of his SCI-indexed papers is 37. Altogether 10 of his publications were listed in the top 10% most-cited publications worldwide (Elsevier SciVal). He has 7 papers with more than 100 citations each in Google Scholar.

Dr Alim has published articles in renowned science news outlets such as, The Conversation and PV Magazine. He was interviewed for his invention of self-temperature controlling Solar Roof Tiles in 2SER radio. The WSU has patented the invention. He has been teaching a number of units at WSU since 2018.

Dr Alim is the recipient of Australian International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) (2014), Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) (2014) and AINSE (Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering) Postgraduate Research Award (2016). He was one of the Finalists for Environmental Solution of the Year, Endeavour Award – 2020.
