Biography

Dr Zhongpu (Leo) Zhang is a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award Fellow of the Australia Research Council (ARC DECRA), and a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment at Western Sydney University (WSU).

In 2016, Leo completed his PhD from the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the University of Sydney (USYD). He has authored over 40 scientific articles, including publications in prestigious journals such as Acta Biomaterialia, Dental Mater, Int J Num Method Eng.

His research interests include: Biomechanics; Fracture Mechanics; Additive Manufacturing; Design Optimisation, Computational Mechanics, Cellular Biomechanics and Soft Tissue Biomechanics. Currently, his research is focused on design for additive manufacturing, exploring the mechanisms of human hard and soft tissues, and investigating machine learning-based multiscale modelling for both hard and soft tissues.
