Biography

Dr Zhongpu (Leo) Zhang is currently working as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Western Sydney University, Australia. Before starting at Western Sydney University in 2018, he was a postdoctoral research assistant in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the University of Sydney. He completed his PhD degree at the University of Sydney in 2016. He also obtained his MPhil and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons), both from the University of Sydney. He has authored over 30 refereed journal publications, co-edited 3 conference proceedings and a number of high quality conference papers, including those prestigious prize-winning papers and plenary/keynote papers. He was the "Secretary in General" for the 1st Australasian Conference on Computational Mechanics (ACCM2013) in 2013 and the 11th World Congress on Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (WCSMO-11) in 2015, which were the most prestigious conferences in the engineering computational mechanics and optimization field.

Dr Zhang’s research interests include: Biomechanics; Fracture Mechanics; Additive Manufacturing; Design Optimisation, Computational Mechanics, Cellular Biomechanics and Soft Tissue Biomechanics. His current research focuses on investigating the mechanisms of human hard and soft tissues, and multiscale modelling on microstructure of biocompatible surgical materials.
