Title: A spoonful of sugar: Sweet taste comforts babies during injections
Description: Fictional character Mary Poppins may have been correct when she sang a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down . Dr Jann Foster from the University of Western Sydney s School of Nursing and Midwifery was a co-author on a Cochrane systematic review of 14 published clinical studies that found babies did not cry for as long if they were given drops of sugar solution before immunisation.
Title: Babies given sugar to alleviate pain
Description: ABC Radio PM Current Affairs Program. The program highlighting the use of sucrose to alleviate pain in infants undergoing immunisation was syndicated across Australia on 51 ABC radio stations and reached a total national radio audience of over 110,000.
