Biography

Dr. Chunwei Zhang, born in Heilongjiang Province, China, received his PhD degree in 2005 from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), which is one of the top nine universities in China (the Civil Engineering discipline of HIT was founded in 1920 and is currently ranked "A" nationally). Currently, Dr. Zhang is the Chair Professor of Civil Engineering at Qingdao University of Technology (QUT), China. The Civil Engineering discipline of QUT is currently ranked "B" nationally in China. He is a Fellow of International Society of Engineering Asset Management, Adjunct Professor of Queensland University of Technology, Advisory Professor of Qindao Institute of Technology, Adjunct Postgraduate Supervisor at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenyang Jianzhu University and University of Technology Sydney. He is the Director of Qingdao Municipal Engineering Research Center for Protective Structures, Director of International Collaboration Center for Safety and Protection of Ocean and Land Infrastructure Engineering. He is the Founding Director of Structural Vibration Control (SVC) research group at Qingdao University of Technology.

Dr. Zhang’s research interest includes structural vibration control, structural health monitoring, prefabricated structures, structural anti-blast and protective structures etc. He successfully applied the electromagnetic driving mass driver control system, from theory to practice, to the Canton Tower, which was the highest structure (600 meters) at that time in the world, for wind and earthquake induced vibration control. He has supervised 8 PhD students and 25 master students to their successful completion. He has published 3 books, 1 book chapter, 2 proceedings, 8 design codes and standards, delivered 20 keynote lectures at mainstream international conferences, and he is the author of more than 190 Scopus indexed publications.
