Doctor Antonio Lauto

Biography

Dr Lauto obtained the BSc in Physics at the University of Milan, having completed his research project under the supervision of Professors Ilario Boscolo and Claudio Pellegrini ("Enrico Fermi" Award recipient). He received his MSc (Physics) from Macquarie University and PhD (Biomedical Engineering) from the University of New South Wales. He worked for several years as a Research Fellow at Cornell University and The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York (USA). Dr Lauto’s multidisciplinary research spans the fields of Biomedical Physics to Tissue Engineering and Biophotonics; his research is currently focused on the development of minimal invasive devices for tissue repair and regeneration. This research has resulted in the invention of new biocompatible tissue adhesives, which have been patented and commercialized. Other research interests are the photodynamic treatment of pathological fungi and the implementation of nanotechnology to biomedical devices.
