Biography

Wei Xing Zheng received the B.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics in 1982, the M.Sc.(Research) degree in Electrical Engineering in 1984, and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering in1989, all from Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

From 1984 to 1991, Dr. Zheng was with the Institute of Automation at Southeast University, Nanjing, China, first as a Lecturer and later as an Associate Professor. Between 1991 and 1994, he was a Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, U.K.; in the Department of Mathematics at University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia; and in the Australian Telecommunications Research Institute at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. In 1994, Dr. Zheng joined the University of Western Sydney (UWS), Sydney, Australia as a Lecturer, and has been a Professor at the same university since 2007. Over the years, he has also held various visiting positions, such as in the Institute for Network Theory and Circuit Design at Munich University of Technology, Munich, Germany in 1998; in the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA in 1998; in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of California, Davis, CA, USA in 2003; and so on.

Prof. Zheng has served on several technical committees, including Member of IFAC Technical Committee on Modelling, Identification and Signal Processing (1999–now), Member of IEEE Control Systems Society's Technical Committee on System Identification and Adaptive Control (2006–now), Chair of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s Technical Committee on Neural Systems and Applications (2008–2009), Chair of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s Technical Committee on Blind Signal Processing (2010–2011), etc. He has served as an Associate Editor for a number of flagship journals, including IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-I: Fundamental Theory and Applications (2002–2004), IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2004–2007 and 2013–now), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II: Express Briefs (2008–2009), IEEE Signal Processing Letters (2007–2010), Automatica (2011–now), IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems (2014–2015), IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics (2014–now), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (2015–now), and other scholarly journals. He was a Guest Editor of the special issue on Blind Signal Processing and Its Applications for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-I: Regular Papers (2009–2010). He is also an Associate Editor of IEEE Control Systems Society’s Conference Editorial Board (2000–now). He was Publication Co-Chair and Member of the Organizing Committee of the 56th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC'2017) in Melbourne, Australia, December 2017.

Prof. Zheng has received several science awards, including the Chinese National Natural Science Award honored by the Chinese Government in 1991, the Best Theory Paper Award honored at the 5th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation in 2004, and the Outstanding Paper Award honored at the 2012 IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology in 2012. In November 2013 he was elected as IEEE Fellow for contributions to signal processing and system identification. He was named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, consecutively. The citations of his research publications are available from Google Scholar.
