Biography

Dr Yingbin Feng is an Associate Professor of Quantity Surveying at the School of Built Environment. He was the Director of Academic Program (Construction Management) in 2018-2020. He is a member of the leadership team of the Center for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC) at Western Sydney University. He is currently appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Research Institute of Construction Management (CRIOCM) Youth Committee.

Dr Feng joined the University of Western Sydney (UWS) as a Lecturer of Quantity Surveying in April 2011. He pursued his PhD study in the area of Construction Management & Economics at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2007 to 2011. He obtained his Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering in 2000 and Master Degree of Construction Management & Economics in 2004 from the Chongqing University, China. Before joining UWS, he worked as a Lecturer of Construction Management in the School of Construction Management & Real Estate at the Chongqing University, China from 2005 to 2007, and a Structural Engineer in the No. 6 Institute of Project Planning & Research of Machinery Industry, China from 2000 to 2002.

Dr Feng has been conducting research into the issues surrounding the management of civil and building construction and built environment. He is especially interested in applying anthropology, behavioural psychology, health psychology, economics, systems engineering, information and data science, and other interdisciplinary theories to solve the problems of productivity, sustainability, health and safety, training and education, and effective organisations in the construction industry. Dr Feng is currently working on and has completed several research projects (total amount of funding over $800,000) externally funded by SafeWork NSW, Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Urban Growth NSW, and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). These projects focus on the following main research themes: construction health and safety, organisational culture and behaviour, Robotics in Construction, BIM and public-private-partnership (PPP).

Dr Feng has over 100 peer reviewed publications in the field of building and construction management. His research output has gained national and international recognitions as evidenced by the publications in leading journals and international awards. Particularly, he was the winner of the Premier Award (consists of a prize for £2000, a commemorative trophy and certificate) at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) International Innovation and Research Awards 2014. The achievement of Premier Award has placed Dr Feng as "2014’s top innovators and researchers working on built environment ideas in the world" (quoted from CIOB news). This achievement was also recognised in the University Annual Report 2015 as one of the major research achievements of the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics. He was nominated for the 2016 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence as Early Career Research Award.

Dr Feng was appointed as the Guest Editors of two Special Issues for the journal Sustainability (indexed by SCI&SSCI, IP=1.789) and the journal Advances in Civil Engineering (indexed by SCI). He has been an assessor for Australian Research Council (ARC) projects since Dec 2013 and was appointed as the External Examiners of 3 PhD Theses by the University of Auckland and Griffith University. He has been invited to give a keynote speech at the Annual Conference of the International Research Centre for Sustainable Built Environment at Chongqing University (China) in Jan 2017 and serve as the Session Chairmen in 5 international conferences in construction management.
