Biography

I received a PhD in psychology from the University of New South Wales in 2010 and completed a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship, also at UNSW, before starting as a Lecturer at Western Sydney University in 2011. Prior to this change of career I worked internationally in investment banking for seven years. Since commencing at Western I have held the roles of Academic Course Advisor (Years 1-3; 2014-16), Director of Academic Programs (Years 1-4; 2016-19), and Acting Deputy Dean (Academic), School of Social Sciences and Psychology (Jun-Aug 2019).

My research investigates social cognition and emotion regulation across the adult lifespan, as well as age-related differences in social economic decision-making.

Australian Research Council Discovery Projects:

(2020-22) Taking advice: Limits and potentials of social decision-making in older age. $271,000. Bailey, P. E., Ebner, N. C., Moustafa, A. A., & Weidemann, G.

(2013-15) Ageing, trust, and financial exploitation: social, emotional, and cognitive mechanisms. $420,000. Bailey, P. E., Rendell, P. G., Ruffman, T., & Slessor, G.

I am Associate Editor at Cognition and Emotion (2018-), and Consulting Editor at Journals of Geronotology, Series B: Psychological Sciences (2018-), and Psychology and Aging (2019-).

I am Guest Editor, together with A/Prof Natalie Ebner and Prof Elizabeth Stine-Morrow, for a Special Issue in Psychology and Aging on Prosociality in Adult Development and Aging.
