Sutherland Sharks FC Testing Session

Over the last 2 weeks we have assessed the players sprinting speeds and also their intermittent endurance capacity.  The players are also wearing GPS units under their shirts during every training session and match, so that we can determine their running work-loads.  In collaboration with UoW, we are also tracking the injuries recorded over the season.  The aim of the research program is to examine whether the running loads predispose players to a greater risk of non-contact injury.  We are also looking into whether their individual fitness capacities influences any association between running loads and injury.  It is envisaged that information of this nature will help us to better prescribe training loads to ensure that players are optimally prepared to compete, but also without exacerbating their injury risk.

Our new Mres Students Tim Massard and Zac French are assisting with this project.  Zac was recently awarded a scholarship to undertake his research in the Westfields Sports High school high performance program.
