Information for Western Sydney University Law Students
The below information is for Western Sydney University Law Students regarding enrolment in the Clinical Legal Placement (CLP) Unit and attendance at the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic (PCJC).You must be an enrolled Western Sydney University Law student and satisfy the pre-requisites in order to enrol in the CLP Unit.
How do I enrol in the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic (PCJC)?
The below must be completed and passed before enrolling in the Clinical Legal Placement Unit (CLP) Unit so you can attend the PCJC for a 1 week placement. The CLP Unit code is 200699.2.
CLP Unit pre-requisites:
- Torts Law - Western Sydney University Unit Code: 200008.2
- Criminal Law - Western Sydney University Unit Code: 200010.2
- Contracts - Western Sydney University Unit Code: 200011.2
- Professional Responsibility and Legal Ethics - Western Sydney University Unit Code: 200020.5
Quarter 3 and 4 enrolments are open yet there is high demand and limited places remaining (i.e. for sessions from 2 July 2012 – 14 December 2012). We are not taking 2013 enrolments at this stage nor a waitlist. Students will be advised when 2013 enrolments open.

What tasks will I undertake?
Students work side-by-side with solicitors for 1 week and learn practical legal skills e.g. how to capture client information, conduct eligibility checks, and referral pathways. Students attend client interviews and reinforce their learning by working in a professional legal environment. The PCJC offers an opportunity to learn 'by doing' and to assist vulnerable members of the community. For information on assessment tasks see the Clinical Legal Placement Unit Outline.
What if I have not completed the pre-requisites yet want to volunteer?
The PCJC supervises volunteers on an ad-hoc basis at the Clinic and during PCJC Community Information Sessions. Expressions of interest must be emailed email@example.com. Please include the below information:
- First and Last Names
- Student ID
- Contact number
- Attach a CV including areas of studies, skills, work history, and legal areas of interest
- Availability (e.g. day of the week and times you are available to volunteer)

Do I need to prepare or read anything before attending PCJC?
Once you enrol in the CLP Unit you will have access to the Unit vUWS site which includes the Unit Outline, transport information, what to wear, and the address. The information posted on the vUWS site is considered essential reading prior to your attendance at the PCJC.
Where is the PCJC?
The PCJC is located on level 2 of the Parramatta Local Court (12 George St, Parramatta, NSW, 2150). The courthouse is opposite the Woolpack Hotel on the corner of George and Marsden Streets. For a map go to the PCJC home page
