How long are women kept in hospital after giving birth

ABC Radio Interview with Hannah Dahlen, Professor of Midwifery, University of Western Sydney, about how long women are kept in hospital after giving birth. She says 2-3- years ago women used to be kept in bed for 7-10 days, whole now the average stay is less than two days. She attributes this to several reasons, including evidence that women are better off out of hospital, if they can get good support from partners and family. Dahlen notes home-birth and birth-centre mothers have the highest successful breast-feeding rates.
